Physical pricing replaces derivative pricing of gold and oil this year, Maguire says

This will be the year when the derivatives system of pricing gold and oil is replaced by physical pricing, London metals trader Andrew Maguire tells Shane Morand on this week's edition of Kinesis Money's "Live from the Vault" program.
Indeed, Maguire says one central bank may begin repricing gold as soon as this month.

A digital Canadian dollar?
It may not look like it's going to happen any time soon, but the Bank of Canada has quietly taken steps to control a such a concept, according to Blacklock's Reporter.
In Dec. 13 and Dec. 19 filings, the bank asserted ownership of "digital dollar," "digital Canadian dollar," and "central bank digital currency" in both official languages under the Trademarks Act.
No reason was given and no public hearing was held.

Endeavour Mining, one of the world's top gold producers, has fired boss Sébastien de Montessus for alleged "serious misconduct" after discovering an allegedly irregular multimillion-dollar payment instruction.
The FTSE 100 company said in a statement on Thursday that the dismissal of de Montessus as president and chief executive would take place "with immediate effect." It also said it had received separate allegations regarding his personal conduct with colleagues.

Investors flocked to gold in record numbers in 2023 as global economic turbulence triggered a flight to safety, according to the Royal Mint.
The number of people buying gold and precious metal bars and coins jumped by 7% year-on-year, surpassing the highs of the 2020 lockdown investing boom.
