Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

I have the privilege to share with you tonight,
courtesy of www.lemetropolecafe.com, some
economic analysis as brilliant as anything I've ever
read.

The author of the following two essays, Reg Howe,
offers a new and compelling explanation of the war
against gold that is nevertheless reassuring, since it
validates gold's enduring monetary function even as

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

The Bank of England's gold sales are blowing up into a
political scandal.

The story below, from the Sunday London Times, suggests
that the chancellor of the exchequer is running away from
the gold sales in the face of the anger they have caused in
the mining industry and particularly in South Africa, a
country with close links to Britain.

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

I notice that my dispatch tonight of Bill Murphy's
latest quot;Midasquot; commentary was so long that
it had to be emailed to you as an attached file,
and some people have trouble opening those.

Not to worry. You can read the commentary
at the GATA email discussion group web site
without downloading anything:

I think the recent analogy in a GATA post that mentions
Murphy and Powell as the Woodward and Bernstein of the
gold scandal is appropriate. I believe it was in a

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

The Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee is in search

required but of course anyone interested in serving
the cause this way should have a good working
knowledge of HTML and the Internet generally.

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

As bleak at things seemed for gold Tuesday as the price
of gold fell sharply after the Bank of England's
auction, it actually may have been a good day for us.
For the gold mining industry rallied in self-defense
for the first time. A coalition of major mining
companies demanded an explanation from British Prime
Minister Tony Blair about his government's disposition

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

I send to you here as meaty and timely a piece of
commentary on the gold market as you'll ever see --
GATA Chairman Bill Murphy's posting tonight at his
web site, www.lemetropolecafe.com.

GATA operates separately from Bill's web site, but I
feel a little guilty pirating him so often for GATA's
purposes. In addition to waging the fight for gold
