GATA consultant Robert Lambourne has spotted a strange trend in the U.S. government's report about its more than $7 trillion in "special debt," money owed to the beneficiaries of various federal government trust funds.
Somehow, Lambourne writes, interest costs on the "special debt" are reported as falling even as the total amount of "special debt" has been holding steady and interest costs on the rest of U.S. government debt are rising.

Pebble sues EPA to revive southwest Alaska copper and gold mine project

The company behind the giant Pebble copper and gold mine project in southwest Alaska today filed suit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to overturn its decision last year to halt the mine.
Also, the company and the administration of Gov. Mike Dunleavy on Thursday filed separate takings claims with a federal court, seeking compensation after the EPA decision blocked the prospect on state land.

After a powerful up-move last week, this week gold had a minor correction. Silver's upward momentum continued through to Wednesday before it ticked off the top. In European trade this morning gold traded at $2168, down $11, and silver at $25.05, up 65 cents.
The feature of these markets is the extraordinary extent to which bullion is leeching out of Comex.

BUCHAREST, Romania -- Lawmakers in the European Parliament today adopted a non-binding resolution saying Russia should return to Romania gold and other valuable heritage items that were sent to Moscow during World War I for safekeeping, a Romanian lawmaker said.
