Robert Lambourne: BIS gold swaps fell slightly in August but remain high

The recently released August statement of account of the Bank for International Settlements -

— contains information suggesting a decrease of about 38 tonnes in the bank's gold swaps in August, from 502 tonnes to 464 tonnes. 

This compares to the record high estimated at 552 tonnes as of February 25 this year.

Biden administration moves to halt Pebble mine in Alaska

Compelling data in recent commitments of traders reports point to the emergence of a very large buyer in Comex gold futures. 

The last four CoT reports, starting with the report for positions held as of August 10, show a dramatic increase on the long side in gold for the four largest traders (not to be confused with the concentrated short position I speak of regularly, particularly in silver).

CARACAS -- Venezuela's gold reserves fell by 3 tonnes in the first half of 2021 to their lowest level in 50 years, central bank data showed today, as President Nicolas Maduro's cash-strapped government continues selling gold as a source of income.

The withdrawals in the first six months of the year brought total reserves to 83 tonnes. The once-prosperous OPEC nation's economy is mired in a years-long collapse, starving the government of funds.
