TORONTO -- Barrick Gold Corp. announced today that it is pleased to
have reached a settlement of differences with Blanchard & Co. Inc.,
and Herbert Davies. All claims in all litigation between the parties
have been dismissed with prejudice.
Barrick will not make any payment of damages in connection with the
resolution of the Blanchard antitrust case or the Brady and McKenzie
class actions.
The action was filed on December 18, 2002, by Blanchard and Davies
against Barrick in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District
of Louisiana.
On March 5, 2003 Barrick filed a libel action against Blanchard and
Co. Inc. et al. in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
Barrick is also pleased to announce that the libel action has been
settled and it has received a payment in settlement of the action. In
connection with the settlement, Blanchard has issued the following
statement to Barrick: "We regret having made the statements that gave
rise to the libel action filed by Barrick in Canada and any
embarrassment those statements may have caused Barrick or its
officers or directors."
