Murray Pollitt says central banks are losing the gold war right now

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:
Last night at the conclusion of the Toronto Resource
Investment Conference GATA Chairman Bill Murphy and
board member Wistar Holt and your secretary/treasurer
were hosts at a dinner at Hy's Steak House to honor
Sprott Asset Management's chief investment strategist,
John Embry, who has done so much to spread GATA's
message in Canada and around the world.
About 25 of GATA's most ardent supporters attended,
along with our consultant James Turk of GoldMoney,
our litigator Reg Howe, and Embry's research
associate at Sprott, Andrew Hepburn, co-author with
Embry of the Sprott reports on gold price manipulation
and U.S. government intervention in the stock market.
A good time was had by all -- Hy's in Toronto is a
magnificent place, with first-rate appointments, food,
and staff -- and especially by GATA, thanks to the
spontaneous generosity of two of our great friends,
Joe Martin of Cambridge Conferences, the Toronto
conference's sponsor, and economic forecaster Ian
Gordon, editor of the Long Wave Analyst.
Martin donated to GATA a 100-ounce silver bar for
auction at the dinner, while Gordon donated a
Chinese panda gold coin, perhaps the most beautiful
contemporary bullion coin. Then Martin went into
his professional auctioneer mode, as he did at
GATA's Gold Rush 21 conference in Dawson City,
Yukon, in August, and once again the winning bids
were extravagant in the extreme. GATA will not
disclose the identities of the winning bidders lest
their families discover the extravagance.
Such generosity more than covered the cost of the
dinner; it left some change with which GATA hopes
to do more damage to the bad guys.
Toronto was beautiful as always and was enjoying
unseasonable warmth but attendance at the
conference was not what it should have been with
gold and silver prices rallying and governmental
manipulation of all markets becoming more obvious.
Maybe it was because Toronto is Canada's financial
capital while Vancouver, whose resource conference
is always well attended, is the mining industry
capital. But if we can get another $50 on the gold
price and another buck on the silver price, Toronto
may have to do some thinking about where real money
comes from, whether it grows on trees or is hard-
fought out of the ground.
In any case GATA will carry the message to the
Vancouver Resource Investment Conference on Sunday
and Monday, January 22 and 23, 2006. More about that
