China's October net gold imports via Hong Kong hit 3-year high

China's net gold imports via Hong Kong jumped 56% in October from the previous month to the highest since June 2018, as buyers in the top consumer stocked up on the metal as a cushion against rising inflation.
Net imports stood at 54.26 tonnes in October compared with 34.79 tonnes in September, Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department data showed Thursday.

Shares in Hochschild Mining rose on Wednesday after Peru's government said it would not unilaterally close mines and would consider extending operating licences if legal requirements were met.
The London-listed company lost 25% of its market value on Monday after the Prime Minister Mirtha Vásquez said four mines in Peru's southern Ayacucho region -- including the company's flagship Inmaculada mine -- would be closed as soon as possible.

A rare silver coin from the first century was found by an 11-year-old girl volunteering in an archaeological project, the Antiquities Authority announced today. The coin was likely minted by a priest who joined the Jewish rebels against the Romans, which would make it one of the very few remains coming directly from the Temple.

NEW YORK -- JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N) agreed to pay $60 million to settle class-action litigation by investors who accused the largest U.S. bank of intentionally manipulating prices of precious metals futures and options.
The settlement disclosed today stemmed from sprawling U.S. government investigations into a form of illegal trading in precious metals and U.S. Treasury markets, known as spoofing.

The market value of Hochschild Mining dropped by almost a third today after Peru moved to close two of its mines on environmental grounds, deepening a clash between the mining industry and the left-leaning government.
