FRANKFURT, Sept. 27 -- The intention of the European
Central Bank to intervene in favor of the euro,
along with other leading central banks, was
apparently known several hours before the actual
price-supporting currency purchases were carried out
last Friday, according to market sources in

Here's Reuters' version, which is incorrectly
headlined. The headline says Citibank has no comment
on the story, but Citibank indeed does comment in it
and denies advance knowledge of the government
interventions to support the euro.

Gold drove to higher ground overnight and in early New York trading
as the big three economies -- the United States, Japan and Europe --
coordinated intervention in currency markets to stabilize the
