Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

For its annual fall dinner meeting, to be held in New York City next Thursday, October 16, the Committee for Monetary Research and Education will be examining the disaster under way in the world financial system.

Your secretary/treasurer will be among the speakers (his topic will be "How Markets Suffer from the Manipulation of the Gold Price").

Also scheduled to speak at the CMRE dinner:

-- William H. Tehan, a longtime investment adviser, whose topic will be "The Third and Terminal Phase of the Dollar Crisis." He will be interviewed by CMRE members Alan Brown of Aurumbank and Sean Fieler of Equinox Partners.

-- William "Bill" Black, associate professor of economics and law at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, whose topic will be "Unsound Theories and Policies Produce Epidemics of Fraud and Regulatory and Market Failures."

-- Thomas Ferguson, professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts at Boston, whose topic will be "Too Big to Fail: Campaign Finance and the Men in Black."

-- Joshua Rosner, managing director of Graham Fisher & Co., who will explain how the models used by debt-rating agencies for evaluating collateralized debt obligations were devised through excessively close collaboration with the investment banks issuing those debt instruments.

-- Former Ambassador and Navy Secretary J. William Middendorf II, CMRE's chairman, who will report on international economist Robert Mundell's recent meeting with world leaders in Italy, at which they discussed currencies, environmentalism, oil, and population growth.

-- Jon Sudwischer, a businessman from Louisiana, whose topic will be "What Happened to America's Oil Industry, in Louisiana and the Nation?"

-- Antal E. Fekete, the economic historian and gold standard advocate, who will speak on "The Mechanism of Capital Destruction."

-- And market guru Arch Crawford of Crawford's Perspectives.

The meeting and dinner will be held again at the beautiful and stately Union League Club at 38 East 37th St., a short walk south of Grand Central Station. Cocktails will be served from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. with the program and dinner held from 5:15 to 9:30 p.m.

Admission is $160 for CMRE members and their spouses, $185 for others. Checks payable to CMRE should be sent in care of its president, Elizabeth Currier, at 10004 Greenwood Court, Charlotte, North Carolina 28215-9621. For more information e-mail Elizabeth at CMRE@BellSouth.net.

Your secretary/treasurer hopes to see some GATA sympathizers there.
