Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:
Brett Kebble had enemies and his murder is
almost certainly a matter of someone's
revenge over business dealings that GATA
is in no position to defend. But having
met and corresponded with Kebble, GATA
Chairman Bill Murphy and I thought he had
some decent instincts.
He was very much an anti-establishment
figure in a country where the establishment
was even more powerful and vicious than it
usually is, and we were grateful to him for
being GATA's first major contributor, which
took a lot of courage. (Kebble probably
remains GATA's biggest contributor.)
If Kebble sometimes played fast and loose
with his companies, we will still like to
think that he was trying to survive in a
terribly rough and unfair business, that he
was playing for time until the advent of a
fair price for gold set in a free and
transparent market, the sort of price to
which we all are entitled, the sort of
price that really should be a human right.
With such a fair price Kebble would have
been succeeding now and would not have been
murdered.
This is not quite to blame Alan Greenspan,
John Snow, Eddie George, and the other
surreptitious and deceitful central bankers
for Kebble's murder, but in any case those
guys have plenty to answer for, the blood
of many other South Africans on their hands,
and if they were all tried, convicted, and
hanged it might not be this year's worst
miscarriage of justice.
