Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:
Battle Bank in Islandia, N.Y., whose board of directors includes mining entrepreneur Rick Rule, has published an excellent history of gold confiscation by government through the centuries, along with a similarly excellent analysis of why a confiscation like the one attempted by the U.S. government in 1933 is not likely.

Bullion Star Opens in the U.S., Selling and Vaulting Gold and Silver
Bullion Star is now open in the United States, offering gold and silver bullion at extremely competitive prices with free delivery. Bullion Star also offers customers a year of free vault storage along with free delivery as well as storage in its secure precious metals vault in Dallas, Texas.
Storing precious metals is challenging. Homeowner's insurance seldom covers precious metals, and safe deposit boxes offered by banks are neither insured nor covered by the government deposit insurance. Bullion Star's vault is an independently run, Class III UL-rated vault with uncompromising surveillance and round-the-clock security.
With Bullion Star you can transact and store your metals securely and confidentially. Your bullion is fully insured against all risks at full replacement value. Bullion Star uses five audit methods to verify the existence and correctness of your stored bullion.

GATA has addressed this issue from time to time, starting with our long correspondence with the U.S. Treasury Department 20 years ago, and continuing with commentaries by Alasdair Macleod, Mike Maharrey, and Jeff Thomas:
https://www.gata.org/taxonomy/term/22
The main point of these commentaries is that the cause for confiscation in 1933 -- the U.S. dollar's statutory connection to the government's gold reserves -- no longer exists. Back then, by law, the government could issue currency only in a strict ratio to its gold reserves and could issue more only if it held more gold.
Today, with the U.S. gold reserve severed from money creation, we live in the age of infinite money and nearly infinite government power and corruption, with gold standing in the wings as the once and, we may hope, future protector of individual liberty.
Battle Bank's excellent history and legal analysis are contained in an essay headlined "Could Washington Confiscate Your Gold Again? A Sober Look at a Persistent Fear" and it can be found at the bank's internet site here:
