Koos Jansen: China's year-to-date gold offtake reaches 1,063 tonnes

Gold researcher and GATA consultant Koos Jansen thankfully reports today that China didn't stop buying gold during his brief vacation. Through mid-July, Jansen writes, offtake from the Shanghai Gold Exchange for the year totaled 1,063 tonnes, and the offtake for the most recent week, July 20-25, was slightly higher than the average of the five previous weeks. Perhaps of more interest, Jansen reports that silver inventories at the Shanghai Futures Exchange have fallen dramatically over the last 18 months, from 1,182 tonnes to just 149.
