Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

There will be a special focus on gold at the fall dinner
meeting of the Committee for Monetary Research and
Education Inc. on Wednesday, October 24, in New York.

Among the speakers will be John C. Hathaway, managing
director and senior portfolio manager of the Tocqueville
Funds, whose commentary on gold is always followed
eagerly and is cited often by GATA.

Another GATA favorite, Marshall Auerback, international
strategist for David W. Tice amp; Associates, will make a
presentation titled, quot; The End of Free Markets as We Know
Them.quot;

The chief economist for AIG International, Bernard
Connolly, will talk on quot; The Euro, Geopolitics, and
Gold.quot;

As usual, the meeting will be held at the lovely Union
Club on the Upper East Side, 101 East 69th St., right
at the corner of Park Avenue. The bar opens at 5 p.m.
and the first set of speakers goes on at 5:45. Dinner
is from 6:45 to 8, and then it's the turn of the second
set of speakers.

The evening usually breaks up at about 10 with a brawl
between the gold-standard people and the bimetallists.
If we ever got together, we could kick the heck out of
the suits from the Federal Reserve. Maybe this year....

I've attended a few of these conferences and found
them invigorating, and plan to attend this one too.
What with all the Fed types hanging around -- and the
agenda for this meeting lists two more, Walker F. Todd,
former assistant general counsel of the Federal
Reserve Bank of Cleveland, and William C. Gruben, vice
president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas -- it's
as classy a bunch of people as most of us will get to
hang out with. And it comes with a great dinner, all for
just $125, which always has struck me as a bargain --
especially when GATA pays my way there.

If you're interested in attending, you can request more
information from CMRE President Elizabeth B. Currier
at CMRE@worldnet.att.net. Or you can just write a
check to CMRE for $125 and mail it to CMRE in care
of Elizabeth at 10004 Greenwood Court, Charlotte, North
Carolina 28215 USA.

There's been some amazing action in the financial
markets this year and there probably will be more as
October 24 approaches. Elizabeth always assembles a
great program, and CMRE does important work. So
please give this conference your consideration.
